BUNYE PUSHES WEIGHT AROUND AT NAIA/MIAA FOR A BLOOD RELATIVE'S APPOINTMENT - Airport newsmen are vigorously resisting a manipulative move by Press Secretary Ignacio "Toting" Bunye to get a close relative, who used to be his media consultant years ago when he was still mayor of Muntinlupa, appointed as senior executive in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), whom they believe to be "grossly unqualified" for the job.
Bunye is said to be targeting for his kin the position "assistant general manager for media" which is a non-existent item, and one that still has to be created by the board of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the mother organization of the NAIA, for the relative who is said to be working presently under him at the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) as a confidential assistant, receiving PhP25,000 in taxpayers money (on a 15-30 basis), a maximum allowable figure for consultants.
Bunye's letter of endorsement is repotedly pending in the office of DoTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza who also happens to be the chairman of the MIAA, after the appointment of the favored relative was spurned by NAIA GM Al Cusi because it was simply of no vital significance.
And besides, the NAIA is currently employing a staff in the Public Affairs Department and the Media Affairs Office, and has no need for an assistant general manager for media who would be paid in the vicinity of PhP50,000 a month, and having absolutely no capacity (like his endorser) to write a simple news or feature story, and whose only qualification for the demanding job is that of being a blood relative of Secretary Bunye. Austerity, anyone?
